It is one of ALRA's objectives to provide Latinos of the state with a forum
to take an influential role in local, state, and national political activities.
In order for this objective to be met, ALRA members and the populous at
large must be kept abreast of what is happening inside of our communities
and what is going on at all levels of government. Therefore, our issues
tab will connect you with the news and information that is necessary to
develop and express a concise opinion.
ALRA focuses on issues that relate to K-12 Education, Health Care, Immigration
and Minority Business Development. The organization also tracks pending
legislation that may affect Arizona's Latino community. Please check back
here for ALRA's position on pending legislation.
The
Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act (Protect Arizona Now):
ALRA does not support the Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act (PAN).
ALRA feels that PAN is a counterproductive measure which attempts to solve
a federal issue at the state level. ALRA instead supports the H.R.2899
Border Security and Immigration Improvement Act sponsored
by Senator John McCain and Representatives Jeff Flake and Jim Kolbe.
ALRA believes the answer to securing the borders, fulfilling labor demands
and most importantly eliminating the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of Mexican
nationals who only seek labor and opportunity is only achieved through legislation
at the federal level.
The Arizona Latino Republican Association (ALRA) supports the permanent
repeal of the death tax. There are nearly two million Latino small business
owners in the United States. Small businesses create 2/3 of the new net
jobs in our economy. By permanently repealing the death tax, family-owned
business can be passed from one generation to the next without having to
sell assets to pay a punitive tax. ALRA commends Senator Jon Kyl for working
to help small business Latino owners pass accumulated wealth to their children
and grandchildren. Please take the time to read a letter from Senator Kyl
to ALRA regarding the repeal of the death tax. Please take the time to email
your Senator and Congressman urging them to support the repeal of the death
tax for all Latino small business owners.
