Jesse Hernandez
- Chairman
Jesse J. Hernandez is the Chairman and Executive Director of the Arizona Latino Republican Association (ALRA) which he co-founded in May of 2001. Hernandez is a first generation Arizonan, born in Nogales and raised in Phoenix where he attended East Phoenix High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Police Corps where he served overseas in West Germany.
After returning from Germany, Hernandez went to work at United Parcel Service (UPS) as a delivery driver and teamster shop steward where he excelled as a strong labor negotiator and labor leader. He later was promoted into management in UPS's Phoenix metro operation.
In 1996, Hernandez pursued his dream of being an entrepreneur and opened his own insurance agency in Tempe, Arizona providing insurance products and financial planning for families. In February of 2003 he sold the business and is currently employed with the State Compensation Fund of Arizona as an insurance representative.
Hernandez has wealth of knowledge and experience in Arizona's political landscape with over twenty years of community and political activism. He has chaired and been a member of many not-for-profit and government boards including: Mothers Against Gangs, Arizona Future Foundation, Arizona Appellate commission and the Arizona Works Procurement Board. He has also worked on many political campaigns from precinct committeemen, city council races, state legislature races, Gubernatorial races and had the honor of working of former Vice President Dan Quayle's presidential campaign. In 1998, he received the Arizona Republican Outstanding Service Award for his dedication and service to the Arizona Republican Party. Mr. Hernandez resides in Tempe with his family.
Jose Esparza - Vice Chairman
Jose Esparza co-founded the Arizona Latino Republican Association (ALRA)
in May of 2001. After attending Arizona State University West, where he
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics with an emphasis on
Political Philosophy and Foreign Policy, Esparza fulfilled his desire to
create an organization that would give a voice to Arizona's Latino
Republicans.
For the last 7 years Esparza has been employed at Southwest Gas Corp
(SWG). Esparza started with SWG as a Meter Reader. During his tenure
as a Meter Reader, Esparza attended classes at ASU West. In the spring
of 2001 Esparza received a promotion to Supervisor in the Meter Reading
Department. In this position, Jose manages 15-20 SWG employees.
To ensure that ALRA has a voice throughout the community, Esparza
currently sits on the West Valley Republican Coalition. He is also a
recent graduate of Valle del Sol's, Hispanic Leadership Institute.
Family and friends are of the utmost importance to Esparza; therefore he
loves nothing more than to spend time with his wife, and all of those
individuals who hold such a special place in his life. In his spare
time Esparza partakes in his hobbies, which are horticulture, and
reading history.
Blanca Esparza
- Communications Director
Blanca
Esparza is the Community Relations and Volunteer Manager at Phoenix Baptist
Hospital & Medical Center (PBH). In this position, Esparza is responsible
for the management of all volunteer service and community relation activities
for the hospital in collaboration with PBH marketing and business development.
In this position Esparza sits on the Solano Community Alliance, Corporate
Volunteer Council, City of Phoenix Water Safety Taskforce and manages an
advisory committee with representation from the city of Phoenix, state of
Arizona and Osborn School District as part of a community partnership with
the Chris-Town YMCA.
Prior to her position at PBH, Esparza was a media and community relations specialist with the Intel Corporation in Chandler, Ariz. An Arizona native, Esparza attended Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with emphasis in Public Relations from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She is currently working on her Masters in Mass Communication at ASU.
In her spare time, Esparza is active in the Valley of the Sun chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. She has sat on the University Relations Committee for two years and is currently is the committee chair of the Valley of the Sun Awards Committee. As part of her service Esparza guest lectures on the topic of media relations at Arizona State University. Esparza has also served as a public relations consultant for several Valley businesses.
